ROAD REPORT - PHISH in BROOMFIELD, CO

Thanks to Chris for taking time to report from Colorado. He doesn't pull any punches. Sounds like Grouchy McGroucherstein was worn out by Tuesday and needed a cookie and a blankie (^_^)

Saxophones are grand.

First set was on the fly – no set list – little or no continuity. Glitchy sound on “It’s Ice” and a few others.

Second set has jams which wander and abrupt returns to songs at times. “Simple,” awesome. “Slave,” sick. “Julius” a personal fave. “Fee” with megaphone.

Hope they pick it up for night two.

Nice and solid.

Opener “Runaway Jim,” “Halley’s,” “Tweezer,” “Squirming Coil,” “Antelope,” all bomb.

Second set a bunch of songs I’m usually not the biggest fan of all played well with awesome jams. “Alaska,” “Piper,” “Camel Walk” super-tight & funky. “Gotta’ Jiboo,” “Twist,” and a bomber “Fluffhead.”

Overall exceeded expectations.

Looking for a blowout for night three!

Second set “Carini,” “Bowie,” “Free,” then bulsh*t slow songs for 2 hours.

“Split Open” terrible jam.

“Meatstick” encore then walked offstage, no bows.

Fuc*ing worst show I’ve ever seen. No rock’n’roll whatsoever. I want my $60 back from the band.

GUEST TOASTS AHOY

You may have noticed this week's show (10/7/10) was a Best of Toast-n-Jam repeat from last winter, featuring hilarious guest toast Michelle LaFlamme-Childs.

Toast is on the road and if you look at the concert calendar I'll bet you can all guess where.

Tune in this week (10/14) when Toast'll mix up the musical medicine live with guest toast David Del Mauro (from the Santa Fe New Mexican). He's got an inside track on stuff you're not gonna hear anywhere else (^_^)

And, next week (10/21), film producer Clint Huling guest toasts. Sidenote: Clint was the first to turn Toast on to Jerry's Legion of Mary stuff.

Finally, an October of guest toasting concludes 10/28, with the return of the Infamous Benefactors - Matt and Andrew - with the yearly Toast-n-Jam Halloween Masquerade, where bands don the guise of other bands, as it were. All covers, baby!

Tune in, turn on, and jam out!

ROAD REPORT - FREE FALL MUSIC FEST 10/1-3/10

Whew! A lot of effort went into making this listener appreciation event a success. Here's hoping we can do it again next year (^_^)

Highlights for me were The Statesboro Revue on Saturday 10/2/10, and Chali 2na on Sunday 10/3/10.

He joined his old bandmates, Ozomatli, for a while during their set as well.

Ozomatli is one of New Mexico's favorite bands (and one of my favorite live bands too - I've honestly lost track of how many times I've seen them, and they're always fun), and they closed out the outdoor stage activity on Sunday 10/3/10, which was apparently percussionist Jiro Yamaguchi's birthday!

Pictured below are Asdru Sierra (trumpet), Raúl Pacheco (guitar), and one of my personal heroes, Ulises Bella (saxophone).
