Josh Martin (bass, vocals), Ben Wright (acoustic guitar, vocals), and Paul Feathericci (drums, vocals) had a last-minute venue-and-date change last night, which was lucky for me: I was finally able to catch the act several TnJ fans have been telling me about; though billed as "Dylan and the Dead," it seemed we were all worshiping at the altar of the Dead.
Anyone who's seen live music in Santa Fe over the last 15 years have been entertained by these gentlemen in various solo and group configurations, and their legions of fans (and their kids) packed the patio at the original Second Street for a respectful-yet-joyous facsimile of the Grateful Dead.
Everyone, including Ben Wright, was a little shocked at how well the "Terrapin Station" came off. Even the real Dead hardly ever tried that one live. The addition of Lonn (on guitar, a Josh invite from Brudda Project) ramped the set up into a 4-song segue of favorites: "Eyes > Bird > Scarlet > Fire."
Keep an eye on the Second Street website to catch this combo through September and be ready to shimmy, sing along, and smile.
