ROAD REPORT - HILL COUNTRY REVUE

Yee-haw! Hill Country Revue delivered the goods like they were going out of style last night at the Santa Fe Brewing Company.

Doc Samba and their newest member, David Mason, are the tightest rhythm section I've seen in, literally, YEARS!!!

This Mississippi outfit's brand of boogie-woogie blues-rock was just what we needed to shake off the newly arrived winter chill in the City Different. They're top of my wish list for an outdoor summer show in 2011.

Bandleader Cody Dickinson said in a radio interview earlier in the day (kbac.com) he met his newest bandmates in church. Now, maybe he was joking, or maybe they've just got hipper churches in the south. Whatever congregation he attends, it's got a whole lotta soul.

Pictured here are (front) Doc Samba, bass (back, l to r) David Mason, drums; some DJ guy; Dan Coburn, vocals; Kirk Smithheart, guitar; and Cody Dickinson, guitar, keys, percussion.

I should mention that opening act, Anthony Leon & the Chain ("providing all your honty-tonk needs" was a direct quote from the stage) is fast becoming my favorite Santa Fe band. They played a fantastic set and supposedly have an album coming out soon. See them if you can (^_^) TOAST
