COLORADO FIRE BENEFIT GATHERS CHEESE, SALMON, PHISH, more...

On October 9, 2010, a special fundraiser will feature String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Drew Emmitt and Vince Herman (both of Leftover Salmon fame), as well as Phish (making their 3-night run in Broomfield a 4-night run).

The "Fourmile Canyon Revival" happens at the 1st Bank Center (formerly the Odeum), and funds raised will go directly to the Boulder Mountain Fire Relief Fund. Tickets on sale Tuesday, September 21, at 10 a.m. here.

ROAD REPORT - 2ND ANNUAL TAOS MOUNTAIN MUSIC FESTIVAL

With their new bassist, Jorgen Carlsson, laying it down Allen Woody-style, Gov’t Mule blew us all away at the 2nd Annual Taos Mountain Music Festival over Labor Day weekend. Yonder Mountain String Band, Shemekia Copeland, Radio la Chusma, and Mia Borders were no slouches either.

Highlights from the Mule’s heavier-than-thou set included a truly amazing re-working of Zep’s “Whole Lotta Love” inside an epic, set-closing “Mule,” during which Warren Haynes flubbed the first chorus. Maybe it was the altitude (9200 feet y’all). A guest appearance from Shemekia Copeland gave the Mule a chance to show off their blues chops on “That’s What Love Will Make You Do;” and their recent single, “Broke Down on the Brazos,” got a chance to open up and breathe fire, even without ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons (who added his flair to the studio track). Gov’t Mule has never been an easy band to classify. I hereby dub them, “Psychedelic Trucker Rock.”
